2026 has been a turbulent year for many communities around the world. Europe recorded the hottest summer on record and experienced devastating run away fires. A rock and ice avalanche swept down a valley on the Nepal- China border, killing thousands of people. In the USA, communities lost their battle with the sea as storms and high tides hit coastal areas. As typhoon Dujuan swept over Japan, over 1.6 million people were evacuated from their homes. The strongest El Nino event ever recorded is predicted to kill over 400,000 people worldwide. Although, 2026 marked a turning point in our planet, 2027 is lining up to be a year to remember, but for the wrong reasons.
In this presentation, Jonathan focuses upon climate change and the effects of El Nino, how it drives the climate, what it all means for Southern Africa, and more importantly, how can we prepare ourselves for the not to distance future.
