The Ego/ Eco Paradigm

Understanding our impact upon the world

Introduction

Many of us have given in to the myth of the modern lifestyle of consumption and waste, falling prey to a disconnect from the natural world. It used to be that the consequences of our choices are stealing the future from our children. But now we are stealing the future from ourselves. We are the first generation to witness the consequences of our actions in our own lifetimes.

If your parents’ parents were alive today they would be disgusted by the rate of animal and plant extinction, the pollution, the destruction of the environment and our ill health that we find completely acceptable today. However, the question of how much do we impact upon the world can be tricky to answer, simply because we are rarely aware of the consequences of our actions.

The Ego/ Eco Paradigm offers a simple framework that helps us understand how we are driven by our values and beliefs, the impact that our values and beliefs have, and the consequences of our every day choices.
